Privacy policy

1. The short version

• Font analysis runs on your Mac. Scan & Cleanup does not need to upload your font files to analyze them.
• Cloud sync is optional. Creating an account or verifying your email does not switch it on. Font-file backup is a separate choice.
• Fonting for iPhone reads your cloud library. It signs in to an existing account and opens the fonts and details you back up from your Mac. Share images stay on your iPhone unless you share them.
• Stripe handles checkout. Stripe Managed Payments is the merchant of record for paid purchases, including applicable transaction tax, refunds, disputes, and payment support. Fonting stores purchase status and Stripe transaction identifiers to issue and restore access; we do not receive full card numbers.
• No advertising trackers. We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or include an advertising or analytics SDK in the current Mac app, iPhone app, or website.

2. Information we process

Accounts. If you request a verification code or create an account, we process your email address, account identifier, verification status, and session information. Authentication services also receive connection and security information, such as IP addresses and request times.

Billing and licenses. To start a trial or fulfill a purchase, we store the account identifier, trial start, Stripe customer, transaction, and subscription identifiers, purchase and subscription status, renewal and cancellation dates, and a device identifier used to sign access receipts. For a friend license, we store a one-way hash of the code, when it was redeemed, and the receiving account identifier. Stripe Managed Payments processes paid checkout, billing details, applicable transaction taxes, and payment support. We do not receive your full card number.

Your local library. Font files, local library information, and local analysis are stored or processed on your Mac. They are not uploaded to your Fonting account simply because you sign in.

Optional cloud sync. When you enable sync, your private account stores font names, foundry details, source URLs, file metadata, classifications, notes, favorites, collections, and preview preferences, including saved specimen text. A generated device identifier and change timestamps help synchronize your devices. Font files are uploaded only if you separately enable font-file backup. Your private library is not made available to other Fonting users through the app.

Fonting for iPhone. The iPhone app signs in to an existing account with the email address you use on your Mac and a one-time code we email to you. It does not create accounts or take payments. While you are signed in, it checks your account’s access and reads your private cloud library: the font names, details, and organization you sync, and the font files you back up from your Mac. Your library details and preview settings are stored on the iPhone, and fonts download as you browse into an on-device cache with a size limit. Favorites, collections, categories, and font details you change on the iPhone are sent to your account so your Mac can receive them. The app creates a random sync identifier for this installation to keep your devices in step; it is not derived from your device’s hardware or advertising identifiers. Specimen images you share are saved on the iPhone in Saved Images. They are not uploaded to us and leave the iPhone only when you share or save them elsewhere. The iPhone app contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking.

Website visits. Our hosting provider processes technical request information, such as your IP address, requested page, browser information, and request time, to deliver and protect the site. Text you type into the website’s interactive font examples stays in the page and is not submitted to us. We do not set advertising cookies or use cross-site tracking on this website.

Support. If you contact us, we receive your email address and any messages or files you choose to send. Please do not send verification codes or fonts you do not have permission to share.

Terms acceptance. App releases with an acceptance screen store a record on your Mac of the terms and policy versions displayed, a copy and fingerprint of those documents, your acceptance time, the app version, and a local profile identifier or signed-in account identifier. These records support version tracking and are not automatically uploaded to us.

3. How we use information

We use this information to verify and manage accounts, provide the cloud features you select, deliver the website and app, respond to requests, send occasional product-update emails about Fonting, troubleshoot problems, protect the service, and meet legal obligations. We do not use your private font library for advertising.

Where applicable data-protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on providing the service you request, legitimate interests in operating and securing it, compliance with legal obligations, or your consent where required. You can change your optional cloud settings at any time.

4. Service providers and external websites

We use service providers to operate Fonting:

• Supabase provides account authentication, cloud database services, billing entitlement storage, and optional font-file storage.
• Stripe acts as merchant of record for paid purchases through Managed Payments and processes payment details, applicable transaction taxes, receipts, refunds, disputes, and transaction support.
• Resend delivers account verification, trial-ending, subscription, cloud-deletion, and occasional product-update emails and processes the email address, message, delivery information, and email preferences, such as unsubscribes, needed for that service.
• Vercel hosts this website and processes technical requests to serve and protect it.
• GitHub hosts app downloads and receives requests for update checks. Update checks do not include your font library.

When you open an external link, that website receives connection information and may apply its own cookies or privacy practices. Its policies apply to your visit.

We may disclose relevant information when required by law, to respond to a valid legal process, or when reasonably necessary to protect people, rights, or the security of Fonting. Service providers may process information in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, transfers are subject to applicable safeguards.

5. Your controls and deletion

You can turn cloud sync and font-file backup off in Fonting for Mac’s Settings. This stops future transfers through those features; it does not delete existing cloud copies. Signing out also does not delete your account or its stored information. You can exclude a font from future sync on a Mac or remove its cloud copy through Font Details. The subscription-expiry retention period still applies when sync is turned off.

To remove your account and active cloud library, including backed-up font files, use Delete Account in Fonting for Mac (Settings → Account) while signed in. Fonts and library information already retained on your Mac remain there; you control those local copies separately.

On iPhone, Clear Downloaded Fonts in Account removes downloaded font files, and signing out removes the iPhone’s downloaded fonts, cached library details, and sign-in session. Saved Images stay on the iPhone until you delete them in the app or delete the app. Deleting the app removes its fonts, library details, and Saved Images from that iPhone, and its saved sign-in session is cleared the next time the app is installed. Deleting your account also removes the cloud library the iPhone app reads.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, restrict or object to certain processing, and withdraw consent. To make a request or get help if account deletion is unavailable, email mail@fonting.co. We may need to verify that the request is yours. You may also have the right to complain to your local privacy regulator.

We do not use cross-site behavioral tracking, and the site does not change its behavior in response to a browser’s Do Not Track signal. There is no sale or advertising-sharing activity to opt out of.

Trial reminder and product-update emails include an opt-out link, and you can also reply to ask us to stop. We store that preference and minimal send/delivery records to honor it, avoid duplicate messages, and verify delivery of essential cloud-deletion notices. Account security and essential service notices are separate from these email preferences.

6. Retention and security

Account information is retained while needed to provide your account and the features you enable, unless you delete it. For annual subscriptions and one-year complimentary access, the cloud library, including backed-up files and library details, is scheduled for permanent deletion 21 days after the last paid or complimentary period ends if you do not renew. Reminder emails are best effort and do not extend this 21-day retention period. Unavailable or unresolved payment information and service interruptions can delay cleanup until reviewed. We do not keep a separate recovery copy of deleted cloud libraries. Lifetime purchases and permanent complimentary licenses are excluded from this expiry schedule. Local Mac copies are not automatically erased.

Support correspondence and operational records are kept as needed to resolve requests, maintain security, and meet legal obligations. Service-provider backups and security logs may remain for a period after active account data is deleted, under those providers’ retention practices.

We use technical measures to protect information, including account-based access controls and encrypted network connections to our account and cloud providers. The Mac app uses macOS-protected encryption for saved session credentials when available. Fonting for iPhone keeps its sign-in session in the iPhone’s Keychain, available only on that device, and keeps its library details, downloaded fonts, and Saved Images out of device backups. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

Local terms-acceptance records remain in the app’s data folder until that local data is removed. Deleting your cloud account does not remove those local records. They may be included if you choose to provide your app data to support.

7. Children’s privacy

Fonting is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

8. Changes to this policy

We will update this page and its effective date when our practices change. We will provide additional notice or request consent when required by applicable law.
